If you smell gas
Leave the area immediately. Do not use phones, switches or electronics nearby, and do not search for or attempt to repair the leak. Once safely away, call 911 or Enbridge Gas’s Ontario emergency line at 1-866-763-5427. Do not stay inside to troubleshoot the furnace, check a valve or complete a booking form.
If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds
Go outside immediately and call 911 from a safe location. Do not re-enter until emergency responders say it is safe. Carbon monoxide cannot be identified by smell. A gas leak and a CO alarm are different situations, and a CO alarm does not replace awareness of a natural-gas leak.
Do not wait for a routine appointment
The online calendar is for ordinary appointments, not emergency dispatch. Once the immediate danger has been addressed, follow the directions given by the utility or emergency responders about the equipment and any required work. A website article cannot determine whether a home or appliance is safe to use. Keep the responding professional’s instructions and documentation for the follow-up assessment.
