A conventional, naturally vented gas water heater stores hot water in a tank and uses natural draft to carry combustion gases through an approved vent or chimney system.
For a replacement, we assess the existing venting, combustion-air supply, available space and household hot-water needs. An existing chimney connection does not automatically mean it is suitable for the new heater.
Request a CV40 quoteThe CV50 is another conventional storage-water-heater option. We help you compare capacity and recovery performance with your household’s peak demand.
Like the CV40, it needs suitable natural-draft venting and combustion air. The equipment model, dimensions and manufacturer’s warranty will be confirmed with your quote.
Request a CV50 quoteA power-vent water heater uses an electric blower to exhaust combustion gases through an approved vent system. This can provide different vent-routing options than a conventional chimney-vented tank.
It requires an electrical supply. We check the vent route, termination location, combustion air, clearances and tank access before recommending an installation. Manufacturer warranty details depend on the selected model.
Request a PV50 quoteThe compact, wall-mounted Rinnai SENSEI RX199iN heats water as it flows, without a storage tank. Capacity is selected around incoming-water temperature and the taps and showers you use together. We assess gas supply, venting, electrical power and condensate drainage.
Coverage starts from purchase and is subject to Rinnai’s terms, correct installation, operation and maintenance. Heat-exchanger coverage is reduced at settings above 71°C (160°F); commercial terms differ.

The details that matter
| Your options | Consider it for | What to discuss |
|---|---|---|
| Tank water heaters | A stored supply for everyday use | Tank capacity, recovery rate and space. |
| Tankless water heaters | Heating water as you use it | Simultaneous flow, incoming water temperature and venting. |
| Heat pump water heaters | Homes suited to an electric alternative | Room air volume, clearance, drainage and electrical supply. |
A little clarity
A tank stores a supply of hot water, while a tankless unit heats water as it flows. Space, peak demand, fuel supply and installation requirements affect which is a better fit.
Tank capacity and recovery rate matter for storage heaters. Tankless systems need to be sized for the desired flow and the temperature rise, especially with cold incoming water.
It may be possible, but the installation needs to be assessed. Gas or electrical capacity, venting, water demand and the available space can all affect the work required.
